Due to a number of serious injuries within our local industry over the last 12 months, SafeworkNSW has flagged the concept of a pilot project looking at the risks and providing tailored safety advice and assistance.
Growers will be picked at random for the compliance review with around 15 to 20 inspections to take place over the April/May period.
We have received a draft version of the checklist the SafeworkNSW officers will be using, please use this as a guide.
We have been told the focus will be on:
- Falls from heights
- Tractors and Quad Bikes (ROPS and PTO Guards)
- Machine Guarding
- Hazardous manual tasks
- Exposure to solar ultraviolet light (sun protection)
- Contractor management
- Return to work and Workers Compensation
